The
Third Hakone Dai Chakai, or "Grand Tea Gathering", will
be held at Hakone
Gardens in Saratoga from 11 o'clock in the morning to
5 o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, October 12, 2003. This annual
event, hosted by the Hakone Foundation is quickly becoming one
of the most eagerly anticipated events in the calendars of practitioners
of the Japanese tea ceremony. Like the first two Dai Chakai, this
year's will feature several tea ceremonies being conducted at
the same time at various locations in the buildings and grounds
of beautiful Hakone Gardens throughout the afternoon. The world
of the Japanese tea ceremony is well represented in this area
by practitioners of at least five different traditions, including
Omotesenke, Urasenke, Mushanokojisenke, Dai Nippon Chado Gakkai,
and Yabunouchi. This year groups representing all five of these
traditions have agreed to come and conduct tea ceremonies in the
buildings and in the garden at Hakone Gardens, for tea practitioners
and non-tea practitioners as well. This is a unique opportunity
to be able to see, and participate in, an ancient Japanese cultural
form as it is practiced today in northern California. Everyone,
tea practitioners as well as those who wish to experience the
beauty and intimacy expressed in the world of tea, are invited
to attend this event.
This event is
for the benefit of the Hakone Foundation and is designed to enable
tea practitioners from the various schools of tea to come together
to share their common love of this art of human relationships,
and for members of the Hakone Foundation and general public to
have an opportunity to view and experience the Japanese tea ceremony
in a beautiful and authentic setting.
The fee for the event is $45.00 per person, which includes a bento,
drink and a bowl of tea and sweet at three different locations.
Participants may be admitted to more locations if space is available.
In order to reserve a place at this unique event please print,
fill out and send the attached pre-registration form, along with
a check made payable to Hakone Foundation in payment of the fee,
to Stewart Lenox, 2700 Via Coyote, Santa Cruz, CA 95065. PLEASE
